With gratitude for a full and wonderful life, we announce the peaceful passing of Anne Doreen Klopoushak, our Wife, Mom, and Baba, on Sunday, August 14, 2016.

Anne was born in the village of Pohorilivka, near Chernivtsi, Ukraine on May 10, 1928 to Metro and Mary (Markewich) Hankewich. Until the age of 6, she was raised by her mother and extended family in Ukraine. Anne and Baba Mary joined Metro in Canada in March of 1935, where father and daughter met for the first time. The family eventually settled on the homestead in Dafoe, SK.

After completing her early education in Dafoe, Anne attended Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon for grades 11 and 12, and then went on to Teachers’ College. She lived at Mohyla Institute, where she met many of her life-long friends and the love of her life, Stanley, also a teacher. They were married on May 22, 1948, embarking on their teaching careers and raising their children, Larry and Cathy.

Anne taught in Punnichy and Grasswood, and at Sutherland and Prince Phillip schools in Saskatoon. All her students learned to spell her name quickly, as it was the first word on every weekly spelling test in her classrooms.

Anne was very involved in the church community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, singing in the choir, serving on the church board and the Ukrainian Women’s Association executives, local, provincial and national. She was awarded an honourary life membership of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (UWAC) for her long and dedicated service on the board of directors.

Anne and Stan enjoyed entertaining family and friends, curling, singing in choirs, and spending time at their cabin at Emma Lake, and chaperoning Stan’s high school travel club to Europe. She especially enjoyed her trip home to Ukraine to visit her family.

Anne is survived by her husband of 68 years, Stan, her son Larry Klopoushak (Alicia), and daughter Cathy Klopoushak (Dale Bodnarchuk), and her special joys, her grandchildren, Carissa and Mark (Catherine) Klopoushak, Adriana and Toma Lebedovich, brothers John (Mary) Hankewich and Terry (+Kerri) Hankewich and sister-in-law Evelyn (+Peter) Hankewich, as well many members of their extended families, here and in Ukraine.

Services will be held on Wednesday evening, August 17, 2016 at 7:00 pm and Thursday morning, August 18, 2016 at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 306 Avenue J South, Fr. Taras Makowsky officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Orthodox Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of one’s choice.

To share condolences and memories, visit www.parkfuneral.ca “Obituaries”.
