A long life well-lived, Mae O’Brien passed away peacefully on February 20, 2017 at the Langham Senior Citizens’ Home a few days prior to her 102nd birthday.

Mom was born in Asquith to Priscilla and George Forsyth on March 2, 1915. She was the second youngest of 10 children. Moving to Saskatoon in her late twenties and loving music she entertained with two singing trios, the “Milk Maids” and “We Three”, along with the swing bands at the Bessborough Hotel, Capital Theatre and the Vimy Memorial Band Stand in the park. Mom met her future husband Art O’Brien (on leave from the Navy) at the 2nd Avenue “Nut Store”, famous for selling roasted nuts. They were married on November 4, 1947 in Prince Albert and moved to Saskatoon in February 1957. After retirement they spent many winters in Arizona.

In 2014 mom moved to the Langham Senior Citizens’ Home where her needs were met by caring and compassionate staff. Thank you as you were a gift to our mother.

Mom loved her sports – playing baseball, skating, track and field (particularly the high jump), and in her later years 5-pin bowling. She cheered for the Toronto Blue Jays, the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, and enjoyed the golf channel. She was a homemaker performing her magic in the kitchen, enjoying entertaining and sewing most of her wardrobe.

Our mother was predeceased by her husband Art O’Brien; sisters Olive Hodgins, Pearl Gillie, Ruby Hornby; brothers Oliver, Roy, Jack, George, Ed and Les Forsyth.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Pat (Wayne) McBeath, grandsons Barrett of Saskatoon, SK, Richard of Slocan Valley, BC, and Brad (Marie) of Bonnington, BC, great-grandchildren Daisy and Weston; her daughter JoAnn Porter of Chilliwack, BC, granddaughters Cathy, Tracy of Chilliwack, BC and Barbara (Shawn) Russell of Ferndale, Washington; and many nieces and nephews residing in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

In celebration of our mother’s life a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. from Park Funeral Home (311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon), officiated by Rev. Daryl Woods. Mom will be interred beside dad in Christus Court, Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cheshire Homes of Saskatoon, 2901 Louise Street, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L1.

To share memories and condolences, visit www.parkfuneral.ca “Obituaries-Contribute”.
