WALTER YURKOWSKI
February 16, 1931 – May 14, 2013

Walter passed away at Royal University Hospital suddenly of a heart attack while recovering from a mini-stroke.

He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Nellie (Surowich); daughter, Rose (Philip) Bray; sons, Frank (Sherrie Hall) Yurkowski and Nick Yurkowski; grandchildren, Tamara (Chris), Timothy and Tawnya; and great granddaughter, Trinity. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen (Ryhorchuk) Yurkowski; and his siblings, John, Mary Gedir, Peter and Victor.

Walter was born near Krydor, SK and lived in various communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan including Garson, Blaine Lake and Saskatoon. He was a man of many talents and tried his hand at many jobs including butcher, lumberjack, carpenter, auto body repair and beekeeping. Those who knew Walter knew he wasn’t one to give up. Being a double amputee of both legs, Walter learned to walk with prostheses. It slowed him up a bit, but not much. He enjoyed his beekeeping and looked forward to continuing it this year. He loved growing plants and tried growing every kind especially if he was told it couldn’t be done. More often than not, he grew it and proved it could be done.

Vigil for Walter will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, with Lay Minister Norma Denis officiating. Committal of Walter’s ashes will take place in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

To send online condolences to the family, visit www.parkfuneral.ca “Obituaries & Tributes”.
