<div itemprop="description">It is with great sadness that the family of Lena Wachniak (nee Kruchkowski) announces her passing on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the age of 101. <br><br>Lena was born on May 6, 1915 to Kost and Frusyna Kruchkowski in Ratner, Saskatchewan. She met the love of her life, Fred Wachniak, and they married on November 21, 1933 and together they raised their four children: Elmer, Gerald, Madeline, and Ruth. They farmed in Gronlid and moved to Saskatoon in 1953. <br><br>Lena is survived by her son, Elmer; daughter, Madeline (John) Stan; grandchildren: Stephan Stan, Laura Leah (Andre) Therrien, Dawn (Mike) Stigant, Roberta (Kelly) Helmke, Kathy Welbourne, Elmer Wachniak Jr; and her great grandchildren: Robert and Michael Welbourne; Thomas, James, David, and William Stigant; Jordan Welbourne, Mykaela, Heidi, Maksym, and Gabriella Helmke; and Ethan Wachniak.<br><br>Lena loved gardening, cooking, baking, canning, visiting with family and friends, playing Kaiser, and Timmies. Baba was very proud of her family and cherished making memories with them. Baba was a long-time member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity and the women’s association.<br><br>Lena was predeceased by her husband, Fred; son, Gerald; daughter, Ruth; and grandson, Taras.<br><br>The Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity, 306 Avenue J South with Very Rev.
