The family of Dr. Richard Lloyd Johnsrude wish to inform his many friends and colleagues that Dick passed away on June 7, 2015 at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully at his home in Saskatoon while enjoying a drink on the deck before dinner.

Dick was born at home on March 25, 1928 in Kingsford, Saskatchewan to Barney and Violet Johnsrude. He and his younger sisters, Mona and Memorie, spent their childhood in small towns in southern Saskatchewan. He enjoyed all kinds of games and was an expert swimmer and horseback rider. As a young man, Dick supported his education and the purchase of small necessities by playing the piano in a local band. He eventually went on to other pursuits but remained an accomplished pianist right up to his death. He met Mary Park, in Outlook, Saskatchewan and they were married on December 23, 1948.
He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and worked as a pharmacist in Macklin, Saskatchewan and Surrey, BC. However, a lifelong desire to become a medical doctor prompted Dick to make a major life decision and enter the College of Medicine at the University of British Columbia from which he graduated in 1964. The Johnsrudes then decided to relocate back to Macklin, Saskatchewan with their children, Brian, Patricia and Philip. Dick joined Dr. Eid in the small town practice where he remained for nearly 25 years.

His years as the primary care physician for the Macklin community brought Dick much satisfaction. Many knew him as Doctor Johnsrude, some knew him as Dick, and to others, he was simply "Doc." He worked solo for many years after the retirement of Dr. Eid, on call 24 hours, 7 days per week, rarely taking holidays. He took great pleasure in getting to know his patients, often stopping in for house calls long after this was commonplace. Special occasions each year usually brought into the Johnsrude home a flood of homemade sausage, cuts of wild game and delicious baked goods in thanks for the time he had spent helping families through times of crisis.

In Macklin, he became an avid golfer and was one of the founding members of the Macklin Golf Club. His recreation time was chiefly spent there or, later in life, at the Willows Golf and Country Club, where he played regularly into his 80's. Other pursuits included bridge, horseshoes, cross country skiing and any other game that was being played. He was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and a fan of spectator sports, especially the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In his later years, he became quite a movie buff and loved to circulate email jokes to everyone he knew! Dick retired and moved with Mary to Saskatoon in 1997. In retirement, he had more time to devote to his golf game and also joined the Saskatoon Cosmopolitan Club where he was active in fundraising and fellowship activities. During this time, he met many new friends who gave him immeasurable support and lots of laughs through the years.

Dick was a man who enjoyed nothing more than having his closest friends and family over for dinner, drinks and lots of laughs. He would unhesitatingly list his biggest accomplishments as his three successful children, his marriage to a kind and supportive woman, and the fact that he had delivered over 1000 babies in Macklin during his distinguished career.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Barney Johnsrude and brothers in law Kenneth Braaten and David Grigg. He leaves behind his sisters, Mona Braaten and Memorie Grigg, son Brian Johnsrude (wife Jackie), daughter Patricia Paluck (husband Randy), son Philip Johnsrude (wife Sheila), and grandchildren Blair Johnsrude,, Janessa Johnsrude, Ian Johnsrude (wife Danielle) and Jillian Johnsrude.

At the request of the late Dr. Richard Johnsrude there will be no funeral service.
To view this notice and share your memories, visit www.parkfuneral.ca “Obituaries and Tributes”.
