<div itemprop="description">Elizabeth &lsquo;Betty&rsquo; Vanderstel (nee Andeweg) <br /> <br />Betty was born January 19, 1923 in Klaaswaal, The Netherlands, passed away April 4, 2013 in Broadview Centennial Lodge at the age of 90. <br /> <br />Betty is survived by her children Bill (Barb), Henry (Ilona), Jenny (Al) Ryder, John Thomas; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren with another one arriving in May; plus family in The Netherlands. <br /> <br />Betty was predeceased by her husband Arie, two granddaughters and one grandson in infancy, her parents, sister, stepfather, and other family members in The Netherlands. She was also predeceased by her two special friends, Audrey Vonk and Susan Brewer. <br /> <br />Betty came to Canada in July 1953 and settled in Saskatoon in 1955 where she joined the Bethel Christian Reformed Church. There she met other Dutch immigrants and made many lifelong friends. John and Johanna Maatman were always special to Mom and remained so until her passing. <br /> <br />Mom became a foster parent in 1965 until 1979 and looked after 92 children. Something she enjoyed doing and took pride in. <br /> <br />Mom loved to knit and crochet and made many blankets, sweaters and baby items for friends and family. Then Mom found out about Project Linus where she made approximately 170 blankets for sick kids. <br /> <br />January 19th of this year Mom celebrated her 90th birthday. She enjoyed her day and spoke of it many times in the weeks that followed. <br /> <br />Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel (8th Street East, first right past Briargate Road.
