Emily Towstego (nee Hyshka) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday February 23, 2016 at the age of 88. Emily was born on November 15, 1927 at Peterson, SK to Onofrey and Paranka "Alice" Hyshka (nee Gabrusch). She grew up there and attended Drahomanow School. She worked away from the family farm as a hired farm girl for almost six years at various different places before she met and married John Towstego on July 16, 1949.

John and Emily settled on the Towstego homestead outside of Peterson where they farmed and raised their 5 children. In 1993, Emily and John moved off the farm and into Humboldt, where they became members of the All Saints Ukrainian church. Emily was an incredibly gifted wheat artist and used her time in Humboldt to continue creating wheat weavings and straw artistries which were in demand in Humboldt as well as across the country and Europe. When John passed away in 2003, Emily moved to Saskatoon to be closer to her family. Emily had a passion for and was an avid sewer her entire life. In her earlier years, she was always found doing alterations, and making dresses and wedding dresses, making many of them for her own children. She continued sewing and quilting in Saskatoon, with one of her quilts being featured every year in her church's annual raffle sale. She was very involved and was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Parish and the CWL up until her passing. She took great joy in helping at the church, helping with father's albs, and making perogies for their sales. Emily’s greatest pride was in seeing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and always had perogies and cabbage rolls ready for their visits.

Emily will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren: Audrey (Frank) Orosz of Creston, BC and family Carmen (Alba Landa) Orosz and Myles (Jackie) Orosz and children Madelyn and Lauryn; Judy (Paul) Barry of Calgary, AB and family Peter Barry and John Barry; Wayne (Lucy) Towstego of Creston, BC and family Tyler Towstego and Amanda (Ryan) Gugyelka and children Gray and Farrah; Don Towstego of Creston, BC; Lori (Robin) Lockinger of Saskatoon, SK and children Brennan and Katie; a sister and brother: Wally (Lucille) Hyshka of Saskatoon, SK and Betty (Bob) Duncan of Cut Knife, SK; a sister-in-law Belle Basset of Bruno, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
