Gladys Dorothy Andrews (Lang)

It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Dorothy Andrews (Lang) announces her passing on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the age of 89.

Gladys is survived by her sister Jean Arndt and her brother Jim Lang, both of Saskatoon. Also left to mourn are her nieces and nephews Judy (Terry) Tamke of Saskatoon, Ken (Janet) Arndt of Edmonton, Dan (Sharon) Arndt of Saskatoon, Mark (Susan) Lang of Regina, Tim (Tina) Lang of Abbotsford, BC, Brenda Lang of Saskatoon, and RossAnn Edwards of Saskatoon. She also left behind many beloved great nieces, nephews, great great nieces and nephews, friends, and former students.

Gladys was predeceased by her parents Henry and Karolina Lang; sisters Kathleen Lang and Marjorie Arndt; brothers in law Ken Arndt and Leonard Arndt; and sister in law Jennie Lang.

Gladys was born on February 23, 1925 in Melville, SK. She attended Lipton School and later Moose Jaw Normal School. Gladys began her teaching career in 1943 in a one room school in Pheasant Forks, SK. She also taught in Macnutt, SK, Yorkton, SK. and later in Saskatoon where she taught for many years at Buena Vista School and Lakeview School. She retired from teaching in 1985. Gladys was well known for her devotion to her family. She was always our biggest cheerleader, whether it was a school or musical program, sporting event, or graduation. Her love of children made her an excellent teacher and well loved by her students. In addition, she was our number one choice for babysitter; always up to play games, read books, and do puzzles. Gladys loved to read and travel but her biggest love was music. She was a long time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and sang for many years in the church choir. She also sang in the University Chorus and was sought after as a soloist on many occasions by family and friends. She volunteered tirelessly in her church and community and was a member of The Four Plus Two singing group with her sister Jean and friends, performing at many convalescent and senior homes in the city. Her beautiful voice, ringing laughter, and radiant smile will be missed and remembered by everyone.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the wonderful people who cared for Gladys during her time at Oliver Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gladys’ memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan INC, 1405 Faulkner Crescent, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 3R5.

A Service Celebrating Gladys’ Life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1405 – 31st Street West, Saskatoon, SK with Pastor James Vosper officiating. A private family Interment will follow at a later date.

To view this notice and share your memories, visit www.parkfuneral.ca “Obituaries & Tributes”.
