He received numerous awards and recognition while in business from both companies. He supported his community by sponsoring a soccer team and Pee-Wee ball team for many years. He was also involved with the High School Work Program which provided students with practical on the job training. Leayon retired in 1992. The church was always an important part of his life and he volunteered regularly, particularly with bingo fundraisers. He enjoyed many family vacations throughout Canada and the US, and later other well deserved vacations to Holland, Jamaica, Hawaii, Las Vegas and San Francisco.
