Michael Louis 'Mike' Wist
May 25, 1940 - January 1, 2017
It is with extreme sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Mike Wist. He was born May 25, 1940, in Leader, Saskatchewan. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Eileen, of 55 years and children: Marcel (Donna), Melinda (Gary), Rick (Shelley), Shannon (Andy), Wayne (Carrie), Byron (Candice) and Karista. He will be dearly missed by 18 of his grandchildren and his 8 great-grandchildren.
He was a loving family man who enjoyed the visits of his children, grandchildren and friends. In recent years he looked forward to visiting with his great-grandchildren and watching them grow. He could always get a smile out of them and they would, in turn, light up his.
Mike was a man of values who would allow you to explore and learn through experience and trial and error, rather than just hand you the answers. He was known around work for his sharp “computer” like memory and his sly sense of humor. He was part of the mining industry for 47 years and moved his family throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Mike was a passionate musician who could play a multitude of instruments; his favourites being the banjo and accordion. He would take the time to teach his grandchildren to play the spoons so they could be included as well. Some of the other varying hobbies he enjoyed included: sausage making, camping, gardening, visiting, and reminiscing with friends at PBR.
He was a passionate, friendly, family orientated man; who had touched many people’s lives throughout his 76 year journey.
Please join us in celebrating Mike’s life at Park Funeral Home, 311 3rd Avenue North, on January 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations can be made to the Saskatoon Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation.
