Our Most Amazing Mom
Muriel Lorraine Cherry
October 15, 1925– January 14, 2017

Born in Kerrobert, SK to Bertha and Percy May, she was raised on the family farm together with grandparents, George and Christie Nelson. Later, raised in Glen Ewen by Grandma Christie, they lived with her Aunt Jessie and Uncle Lawrence Burke and their daughters, Mary and Winona.

She is survived by her many loved ones; her two children, Murray (Marjorie) Cherry, Lorie (Tom) Ratzlaff; grandchildren, Angie (Kent) Radke, Deanna Kungle, Danielle Ratzlaff, Kristen Ratzlaff, and Shauna Ratzlaff; great grandchildren, Matt, Will and Karly Radke, Zachary and Cameron Kungle; brother in law, Ray (Betty) Cherry; and cousin, Winona Ewing. As well, Muriel was an aunt to many loving nieces and nephews; and a half-sister to Jean May, Cliff (Mim) May, Eileen (Les) Kuamme.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Cherry; daughters, Donna and Joanne; by Bob’s sister and brothers; and most special cousin Mary (Fred) Simon and Cecil Ewing.

Mom started working as a telephone operator at the age of nine, from the porch of their home in Glen Ewen. Church, Quilting, knitting socks, baseball and skating kept her busy. Fishing and swimming at the cabin at Carlyle Lake was enjoyed by all. The more people who came, the more food, visiting and card games there were. The love of family inclusive and all encompassing. Muriel worked at The Bay, SaskTel and TAS Communication. Working with Bob, she helped make the farm successful. She still found time to write a family genealogy book, be involved in Home & School as a Room Mother, bowling, camping at Christopher Lake, genealogy, and of course dancing with Bob at the Legion on Saturdays. A wife, a mother and a grandma who always had an ear to listen, a kind word and the amazing capacity to understand and not judge. She will be missed. We love you. Have some leftovers. Get the Yahtzee and Rumolli out.

Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Extendicare Preston for their loving care to our mother during her long stay and final days.

Memorial donations in Muriel’s name can be made to the Extendicare Preston Recreation Fund, 2225 Preston Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7J 2E7.

Rest easy now.

The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Park Funeral Home, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon.

To share memories and condolences, visit www.parkfuneral.ca “Obituaries-Contribute”.
