William Porter
July 9, 1934 - June 18, 2015
William (Bill) Howard Porter
July 9, 1934 – June 18, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the loving and devoted husband of Gloria, father to Doug (Diane) Porter, Jacqueline (Ricardo) Umaquinga, Michelle (Renato) Castellano, grandfather to Wm. Christopher (Marie) Porter, Lindsay (Richard) Schlichemeyer, Jessica (Jesse) Siemens, Jennifer Porter and Benjamin and Jared Umaquinga and great grandfather to Olivia, Thea, Dominic, William, Frederick and Sadie.
Bill was born July 9, 1934 to John (Jack) and Joyce Porter of Clair, SK. He had four sisters, Wilma (Ralph) Vigoren, Frances Alexson, Barb (George) Kindrachuk and Marilyn (Claudio) Majcan and was predeceased by Wilma, Frances and Barb.
Bill married Gloria Wawryk in 1958. Bill worked for CN Rail in the Engineering Department until his retirement in 1989. He was passionate about all things related to trains and cars. Bill loved to drive, taking many family road trips throughout Canada. He enjoyed reading, fishing and could speak on a wide variety of topics. He would entertain by his witty sense of humor. Family and friends from around the world were always welcomed hospitably in his home.
Above all, he walked in the course of Christian integrity. Following the footsteps before him, he courageously endured trials for his faith. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Bill treasured his spiritual heritage, his ministry and the many life long bonds of friendship he enjoyed with his spiritual brothers and sisters.
Gloria has lovingly attended to Bill throughout his battle with cancer. The family would also like to thank the many caring nurses and doctors who attended to Dad during his illness and stays at both St. Paul’s Hospital and City Hospital as well as the Home Care visits.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 415 Fairmont Drive, Saskatoon. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
